Marisa Sottos is a photo-based artist, bookmaker, and educator. She has an MFA in Advanced Photographic Studies from the International Center of Photography-Bard College program in New York City and a BA in Art, with a concentration in Photography and Minor in Graphic Design and Motion Graphics from Monmouth University in New Jersey. After graduating, she worked as Lesley Martin’s Editorial Work Scholar at the Aperture Foundation assisting in the publication of titles such as Alessandra Sanguinetti’s Le Gendarme Sur La Colline, John Chiara’s California, and Hank Willis Thomas’ All Things Being Equal. She combines historical events and processes with contemporary trends to further increase understanding of context and intention as a current faculty member instructing at several colleges and universities, including Monmouth University, Yeshiva University, Middlesex College, Ocean College, and Berkeley College. Enthusiastic about collaborating, she organizes gallery shows and publications based on themes that build and connect artistic communities. Sottos maintains a home-studio practice in New Jersey, implementing photographic philosophy with various media.
