 Some journeys have a clear beginning and end, but often the mystery lies in between.

 A group of teenagers was hanging outside of an art museum listening to a style of music I found unrecognizable. After chatting for a bit, he told me about how they had just returned from a “free concert in the woods,” listening and dancing to this style of music for 3 days straight. They had just come off the train, as some basked in the sunlight, others danced in hakken style to thumping Frenchcore music. They were kind enough to show me the style and pose for portraits. A recent quote from the teen’s father: “Trop de teuf, peu d’évangile” which roughly translates to “Too much party, not enough religion”

 This historic residence has physically shifted over time as seen with the multi-tiered roof with abstract angular paths and patterns. The contrast between the timeless structure and garden that renews each season instilled a moment of reflection.

 This group of teenagers was so uninhibited by what society expects from them and their spirit and the light streaming between the combination of classic and contemporary French architecture an arresting metaphor for the dynamic between generations.

 Quiet moment on a historic cliff considering past, present, and future. Gentle rocky textures with slightly broken water coexist underneath a serene sky. Shadows of the bluff mimic the shore division between land and sea.

 Evidence of a painful history co-mingle with the growth of new perspective. Even though there is growth, the tinge of past deeply roots itself.

 The scent of cocoa gently drifts through the fields. The wind caresses the landscape and gently tousles the leaves and blades of grass. Tree bark is warm to the touch. Nature’s textures instill the purest joys of existence.

This color negative photograph was made on the outskirts of abandoned railroad tracks. A sense of self is often contested by the individual along with other various sources. The duality of self-identity and how others identify you are often at odds. Where that power lies is never stagnant, doomed in a continuous flow of “what if.” Individuals question themselves; strangers question themselves and you.

Photographed on black-and-white film, this image is a portrait study involving layered textures. The gentle gesture of wiping away fatigue, the layers of vertical striation, and haphazard noise evoke the exhaustiveness of today. The desire to remain focused is disrupted by uncontrollable outside influences.

This combined color negative photograph with hand-painted watercolor blends images of a group of pledges and an industrialized area that some call home. Privilege allows choice that intentionally or unintentionally effect those without it. The actions of those will seep into society at large. Often subtle, those without license may not even realize its effects.

Photographed on black-and-white film, this image was taken just before lockdown. Wandering aimlessly in the woods inspires consideration of choice in physical and metaphorical paths. This natural gateway created by a branch suggests objective transportation and transformation.
